My How-To: Bookshelves

I am in the process of decorating the bookshelves seen here. Since I somewhat recently moved and was inspired by Emily over at Cupcakes and Cashmere's post on decorating using the bookshelf, I thought it was a great opportunity to decorate my {dream} bookshelves.

Here's what I've got going on so far.

I realized, shopping around, that I prefer books to be organized by colour over theme. I also came to understand that I prefer a cluttered, busy bookshelf to one with dividing spaces. I just feel it's homier that way, just a preference. Now I just need more books!

One thing I deem absolutely necessary for practicality purposes: cute hat boxes. I can't stand having chargers, batteries or wires hanging around, it's very unsightly. They need hiding places for when unused. I also have a bigger one that stores old birthday cards, concert tickets and any other small item that might guide me down memory lane.

As per Emily's suggestion, I've taken a cute cover and left it on display. Also handy because this way it can hide any embarrassing titles, i.e. He's Just Not That into You. Not everyone needs to know you own a copy (Christmas present - it actually has very valuable lessons for a twenty something... WTF, why am I advertising this?).

Also have little treasures on display, like a photo reminding me of a wildly memorable, or memorably wild, night in Paris galavanting about with long lost besties and Our Lady of Guadelupe given to me by my aunt after living in Mexico. Also, if you've been following, you know I'm a little mad for freesias. Especially in mini vases. Now to reach my optimal satisfaction, I need more books and more knick-knacks.
